But all does not go smoothly on his arrival, Tommy is set up and loses everything. Sonny wants his money back, but the biker gangs, Cuban gangsters and corrupt politicians stand in his way. Once a trusted wise guy in the Leone crime family, Toni Cipriani was forced into hiding after killing a made man. Now he's back and it's time to put things right.

The streets of Liberty City are in turmoil. Warring Mafidsi vie for control as the town begins to self-destruct under waves of political corruption, organised crime and union strikes.

Niko Bellic is a Serbian immigrant who is thirty years of age and a veteran of the Bosnian War. He has come to Liberty City to pursue the "American Dream". Niko was persuaded to move to Liberty City by his cousin Roman, who had claimed in multiple e-mails to Niko that he was living a fabulous life, with a mansion, women, hot tubs and sports cars.

Roman is actually a failure who owes local gangs money and needs help from Niko to kill them
