Spain were the first country to win the tournament having hosted it. This happened in the second tournament to be played, which was in 1964.
Spain are hugely fancied to win the tournament with Fernando Torres of Liverpool amongst their star players. However, much like the Netherlands, they have a tendency to fall short, going out at the Quarter Finals in both '96 and '00 and then failing at the Group Stage in '04 (Portugal and Greece progressed!).
