To be a successful guide, you need to be effective in how you help new users.
It can be a scary thing to start a game for the first time - Think back to when you first began Habbo… You were clueless! Hopefully these tips will be useful in helping further improve your great helping standards and ultimately help you towards your Owl badge! :)
Here are our Top 5 Tips on how to be a successful Habbo guide:
1) Be Polite - The worst thing you can do is to turn up to help being rude and loud. It's very daunting to be new at a game, and you don't want to scare them off after 5 minutes!
2) Introduce yourself - If your invitee doesn't trust you, then they're not going to be asking you for help anytime soon! General conversation helps the friendships move along and last at least 3 days!
3) Take it slow - Whether you are a fox or an eagle, take it at buffalo pace! Slowing your explanations down could be the key to helping someone just that wee bit better!
4) Jargon-busting - If you're explaining how a feature of Habbo works, try and remember that new users may not know some of the terminology (Habbo words) that you're using. Everyday Habbo terms such as "p2p" or "Follow a Friend/Stalk" might not mean anything to the newbie, so try and use simple ways of explaining the terminology!
5) Don't overcrowd - Although around 5 people are invited to help welcome the user, if the people there before you are coping well, you can always take time later on in the day to check up on the Habbo and make sure they have settled in alright. That way you maintan your friendship and help them, without overcrowding.
It doesnt cost you anything but the rewards can be massive if you stay patient.
Example You click yes to accept invites. you get invited to the habbo's room you do the basic requirements. but when a habbo asks you something on a partiucalr topic like how do i get free furni? where? etc. and you couldwill reply with "You click the navigator which is located on the bottom of the screen third icon, and then click trading rooms then there there". Then, for some reason the habbo doesnt understand this and gets confused and keeps asking obvious questions to you. stay PATIENT and CALM with them. remeber your setting a example and if they keep on asking simple question which get your blood boiled dont scream at them. you were once new like them they're bound to not get things at first so stay calm and guide them best you can. By the end of session and they're fine and have finally found the palce they needed they will most likely to say thank you so much, thanks or whatnot. and the feeling of helping a person no matter how much you want to scream at them is a good feeling.
so whenever your guiding, and a habbo makes you scream inside with frustration stay calm!
if you do so, you'll not only be a better guide you'll learn know when to keep stum at times of frustration it's a good skill to have.
Can you remember when you were a new user? The confused and baffled tiny player in the giant world of Habbo, this will be how any genuine new player will be feeling when you visit them. So it is worth to stop and think a minute and put yourself into their shoes, or think back to when you were a new user just like them.
The thing is, they probably are expecting Habbo to be a rather cute chat site and nothing more. So they have NO idea of all the extra features or ins and outs, they have no idea that you can play free games, they have no idea there is a console, they have no idea that there are events happenings, they have no idea that ardl is the Bobbaiest Habbo ever, they have no idea that you are there to help (till you tell them)!
What brings me to say, don’t expect them to ask you something specific like ‘how do I play snowstorm’ - because they might not even know what there is on offer within the hotel in the first place! Therefore, they’d have nothing to ask about. It’s like asking about something you don’t even know is there, you get me? No, I didn’t think so.
I’ve seen a few of the you guides mention this too and whilst there is no right or wrong way to guide a user, it really is worth taking the above into account, because it might just confuse the newbie even more!
