The wind was picking up speed as we arrived outside the barn. We crept through the large wooden doors which we handily found slightly ajar. Flynn500 sealed the doors behind us while I took in our new surroundings. A red tractor was sitting in the centre of the barn and all around the sides were various forms of farming equipment from spades and ploughs to scythes and knives. A humming noise could be heard in between the booms of the gusting wind which was now becoming gale force. Flynn500 pointed towards a concrete staircase at the back of the barn and we headed towards it.
Gradually the green and blue pulsing of the lights started to slow whilst the previously loud growling noise became more of a distant humming. The counter had long since reached 0. UKchaserAl still lay motionless on the floor as all around the room the glass pods instantly popped open in synch. Amongst a smoky back drop, dark shadows started to come into focus. The humming noise stopped abruptly, the computer screen turned off and the smoke started to clear.
Having steadily walked down five floors of steep steps, Flynn500 and I eventually came to a glass door. The glass was frosted and it was impossible to see through. A security camera hovered onto our position and after a few seconds the glass door popped open with a vacuum sound. We stepped inside a large chamber with empty glass pods all around the walls. The room was completely empty but for a slight haze of smoke, as if something had been burning recently. We had a closer look around but found little more than the odd sprig of hay and a small puddle of water.
UKchaserAl felt the heat of a blazing sun on his face. He first attempted to open his eyes, but he was unsuccessful. He then tried to move his head but again was unable to. He tried to move his legs, he tried to shout out, wave his arms, wiggle his eyebrows but all his attempts failed miserably. He wondered where he was, what had happened to him and who had caused that terrible smell of manure. He stood motionless, alone in his thoughts.
We discounted our findings as little more than a distraction and decided to head back out. Upon reaching the top of the concrete steps, we noticed that the Tractor was now missing and that the barn gates were flapping open in the wind, which had now calmed significantly. We stepped outside into glorious sunshine but the golden fields of corn that were all around us had changed dramatically. They now included the haunting sight of rows upon rows of Scarecrows. We walked up to one at random for a closer examination and discovered it was made completely out of hay and stood firm in what was now a light summery breeze. Confused and more than a little concerned, we headed back towards the exit. We would need help if we were to ever find out what happened to UKchaserAl.
The End?
