"He could probably squeeze through the window and get out of this haunted nightmare but he still had to find Alex. Yes the garden would be a much safer place than the basement down below; but realistically where was Alex most likely to be: outside in the garden or in a place of darkness and fear? He didn't need to ask himself the question again. So, bravely he gathered together all the courage he could summon and walked over to the basement door. The door creaked a little as he opened it very slowly, he open it a tiny bit so that he could just see inside. There was another set of steps descending down into the dreaded darkness, there were torches attached to the wall lighting up the way down. Matt took one from the wall and started his descent. The old wooden stairs creaked and groaned loudly under foot. Suddenly the door behind slammed shut…."
