No, it's not late night Christmas shopping (though it undoubtedly will be soon). It's Guy Fawkes Night. The night of bonfires and fireworks that light up the sky and fill the air with the scent of gunpowder. The night when millions of pounds will literally go up in smoke and of course the night we celebrate the failed attempt to blow up the houses of parliament.

I was out and about early this morning in search of some sparklers when someone says to me, "Happy Guy Fawkes"! I looked at them in disgust and replied "I doubt he was very happy". It's not that I'm a fan of his, afterall he was a failure, but claiming he was happy is more than a little inaccurate! Mr Fawkes was caught, trialled for treason and then executed. And if that's not bad enough for you, how about having the entire event celebrated by the population of Britain every single year afterwards? Happy? I think not!

Enjoy your celebrations and remember to follow the firework code, because typing without all your fingers is likely to be pretty difficult...
